In her role as division Director of Geriatrics, Heidi oversees the care of older adults across many settings, including the nursing home and assisted living division which provides care for the frailest of older adults in state. She leads a team of interdisciplinary health care professionals and community members in the provision of the Hospital Elder Life Program, which uses volunteers to help prevent delirium and functional decline in hospitalized older adults and is a recognized center of excellence. Heidi also oversees the assessment and monitoring of individuals with cognitive impairment at the MMC Geriatrics Center, with the goal of helping them remain as independent and happy as possible.
In her current position Heidi directs the Geriatrics Fellowship Program and, since 2009, she has served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. She serves on the Hospital Elder Life Program National Board of Directors, the Home Health Visiting Nurses Board of Directors, the Community Physicians of Maine, and the Dirigo Maine Geriatrics Society.
Heidi is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, the American College of Physicians and the Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic Programs. Heidi graduated with a BS in Chemistry from the University of Oregon and received her MD from Oregon Health Sciences University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Maine Medical Center and was a Geriatrics Fellow at the University of Rochester.
